SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Gov. J-B Pritzker on Monday announced a new mask awareness campaign that encourages Illinois residents to wear a face covering every time they’re in public.
“This is going to keep you healthy, and your family healthy. And, by the way, that has worked for a vast majority of people in Illinois,” Pritzker said.
The $5 million awareness campaign follows a data-driven approach that has guided Illinois’ coronavirus response since February.
“This campaign connects the dots between daily actions we take to keep ourselves safe and one of the best things we can do to fight COVID-19 is wearing a mask,” said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike.
Ezike likened wearing a mask to buckling your seatbelt in the car, putting on a helmet when you ride a bike or wearing a life jacket when you’re on the water.
“Let’s wear a mask in public is the same message we’ve been echoing since the beginning. We’re all safer and stronger when we go all in Illinois,” Ezike said.
As of last Friday, Peoria County was no longer under a “Code Orange” warning, but region that includes Peoria remains at the warning level for the spread of COVID-19.
