PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters and paramedics were called around 2:15 a.m. Saturday to the 2100 block of N. Wisconsin on reports of smoke in a building.
Upon arrival, crews found a two-unit apartment complex with fire showing in an upstairs window.
The fire was put out and contained to the apartment’s kitchen area.
An occupant of the apartment, who was outside when crews arrived, suffered a minor burn to his arm. He was treated at the scene.
Firefighters conducted a search and found another tenant in a downstairs apartment. He was evacuated for safety reasons.
“It appears an occupant of the apartment was cooking and left grease on the stove unattended which then caught on fire,” said Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada.
Damage was estimated at $15,000 and no major injuries were reported.
