PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police were called to the 1700 block of N. Great Oak at approximately 7:18 a.m. Sunday on reports of a stabbing.
Officers found an adult female victim who had been stabbed in the torso. She was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
First responding officers gathered suspect information which was given to officers in the area. Peoria Police and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a male matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Sterling and Nebraska a short time later.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said officers attempted to apprehend the man who was still armed with knives, in a parking lot while negotiating with him to surrender peacefully.
Patrons of the nearby Newman Golf Course on W. Nebraska were warned by police to move to a safe location until the situation was resolved.
“The male continued to disobey commands by the officers to stop and drop the knives. Out of concern for the safety of bystanders, less lethal options were used to stop the male,” Dotson said.
The suspect was taken into custody without serious injury to him, and no injury to any bystanders or police.
The man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released a short time later.
Treyquan Massey, 21, was then arrested for aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and resisting arrest.
Massey was taken to the Peoria County Jail following his arrest.
