PEORIA, Ill. — It’s the longest-running race of its kind.
Peoria’s Center for Prevention of Abuse is preparing 30,000 rubber ducks to compete in their 33rd Annual Duck Race next weekend.
The Center’s CEO Carol Merna said all the adopted ducks will make their way down a giant “Slip n Slide” at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria on Saturday, August 28.
“The fun starts at 4:00, the race starts at 6:00. We expect to see that brilliant bright spectacle going down that hill,” Merna said.
At last count, about 7,000 ducks were still available for adoption.
Merna said 100% of the money raised helps support The Center for Prevention of Abuse’s prevention and educational programming.
“We anticipate raising about $200,000. And, 100% of that goes to client care,” Merna said.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse provides free and confidential services to victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault and elder abuse.
CFPA reaches 35,000 students across the Tri-County area each year, with violence prevention education classes.
