PEORIA, Ill. — Charley Steiner will become the 13th Bradley Brave to be inducted to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Hall of Fame in March 2022.
Steiner graduated from Bradley in 1971 and immediately launched his broadcasting career by working at radio stations in Peoria, including WIRL.
Steiner became the play-by-play voice of the NFL’s New York Jets from 1986-87 before joining ESPN in 1988.
Steiner starred on SportsCenter for 14 years in addition to being ESPN’s lead boxing analyst and handling play-by-play for college football and Sunday Night Baseball.
In 2002, Steiner became the New York Yankees radio play-by-play announcer and is now in his 17th year as play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Steiner was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in November 2013 and is a five-time Emmy Award Winner.
In 2015, Bradley University renamed its sports communication program in honor of Steiner with the Charley Steiner School of Sports Communication becoming the first named sports communication school in the nation.
