EDWARDSVILLE, Ill — There are reports of injuries and a possible “mass casualty event” following the collapse of an Illinois Amazon facility during severe storms Friday night.
Multiple reports confirmed the partial collapse at a warehouse facility outside Edwardsville.
An image shared on the Illinois Weather Facebook page shows roughly 1/3rd of the building collapsed.
The report says there were 50 to 100 workers trapped inside with rescue efforts ongoing. Details about any possible injuries or fatalities are unknown as of this printing.
Earlier, IDOT’s local office had reported significant damage in the area of Interstate 270 and Illinois Route 111, where the Amazon warehouse was located.
They urged drivers to steer clear of the area.
The devastation is among much broader storm impacts in and around the St. Louis metropolitan area.
As of this publication, there were roughly 12,000 Ameren Illinois customers without power, most in those areas outside St. Louis.
