SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Maybe the sentence didn’t fit the crime.
Or, did it?
A soon-to-be former Springfield resident was forced as part of a court sentence to publish an ad in a local newspaper saying she’s a criminal.
Springfield’s Illinois Times reports Frances Megan Houston Feibel, 31, pleaded no contest in Florida to charges accusing her of stealing $273 worth of pajamas from a boutique while on vacation.
She got probation, 24 hours of community service, a fine, and an order to publish an ad in the Illinois Times.
A law expert tells the paper when something like that happens, a judge doesn’t think the accused is sufficiently remorseful.
Feibel didn’t want to talk to the paper, and is reportedly in the process of moving to Louisiana.
