OAK BROOK, Ill. – If you want to pay in cash at Portillo’s, you’ll need to go inside.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that the chain — famous for its Italian Beef — will no longer accept cash in the drive-thru lanes starting January 16th.
Cash will only be accepted inside the restaurant.
According to a statement from Portillo’s, the change is being made for smoother service, and for the safety of employees.
The Portillo’s on Rockwood Drive in Peoria’S Westlake Shopping Center opened four years ago.
The chain has considerably expanded in recent years, with 45 locations throughout Illinois.
“We are going cashless only in our drive-thru. This creates a faster, smoother service for our guests and is safer for our team members. We will only accept cash inside our restaurants. We’d be happy to accept credit or debit cards outside or serve cash guests inside.” — Portillo’s statement
