PEKIN, Ill. – A lot of attention to her candidacy ended up being not enough for Pekin City Council member, and interim Mayor, Becky Cloyd.
Cloyd — who voted several months ago in favor of ousting the city’s administrator at the time and then had ballot petitions called into question — lost in the consolidated election to former Tazewell County Treasurer Mary Burress.
Burress was seven votes shy of 2,000, while Cloyd was three votes shy of 1,100.
Cloyd’s fellow council member, Dave Nutter, placed third.
“An honor — a real, true honor,” said Cloyd, to 25 News. “It was an honor whenever you win an election, and you are there for the citizens to step up to the plate and do your best.”
We could not reach Cloyd for comment.
Burress will technically replace Mark Luft, who opted to not seek another term, then resigned early.
