PEORIA, Ill. – We’re learning more about the death of a Peoria County jail inmate over the weekend.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, however, says an autopsy on Erick Luncsford, 33, was inconclusive, and that further studies are needed.
Harwood says medical personnel were called to the jail around 11:30 Friday night for an inmate unresponsive in his cell, not breathing, and with no pulse.
Luncsford, whom Harwood says was last known to be homeless, was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Illinois State Police is investigating the death. Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins previously said a jail officer who was performing CPR on Luncsford himself had a medical episode and had to be taken to the hospital, but was expected to recover.
Jail records do not indicate what Luncsford was in for, or when he was taken into custody.
