GOODFIELD, Ill. – No one was injured after a vehicle crashed into a Woodford County squad car early Tuesday morning along Interstate 74.
Illinois State Police says troopers were responding to a vehicle fire just after midnight in the eastbound lanes around the Goodfield exit. Woodford County Sheriff’s deputies were assisting in shutting down that area and rerouting traffic.
Deputies had positioned one squad car at the 112 crossover and one diagonal across both lanes of the Goodfield exit.
Just before 1:30 A.M., a driver crashed into the squad car at the base of the exit ramp on the front passenger side, causing extensive damage. A Woodford County deputy was in the process of entering the vehicle, and ran to the center median to avoid the crash.
The driver and the deputy were not injured.
The driver of the vehicle was charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Uninsured Vehicle, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speech to Avoid a Crash, and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle.
