GALESBURG, Ill. – The only declared challenger so far in the 17th Congressional District race next year is ending his campaign.
Ray Estrada (R-Galesburg) announced Tuesday that he is postponing his campaign in the Republican primary race. Estrada declared his candidacy in April.
“It saddens me to withdraw from the race, but after careful consideration and discussions with my family, I feel the timing is wrong for my candidacy this election cycle and I have decided to postpone my campaign for Congress in the 17th Congressional District in Illinois to focus my time on my family and my philanthropic endeavors,” Estrada said in a statement.
Estrada’s platform included building safer communities, securing the country’s borders, and creating financial security for families.
Unless another candidate emerges, current 17th District Congressman Eric Sorenson will run unopposed in next year’s race.
