PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Three men were arrested on weapons charges after an early Christmas morning traffic stop in Peoria Heights.
Peoria Heights Police say the stop occurred just before 1:30 A.M. Monday in the area of Prospect and Paris, after the driver reportedly failed to use a turn signal multiple times.
Officers searched the vehicle after reportedly detecting a smell of marijuana in the vehicle.
During the search, officers allegedly located a loaded handgun on Robert Lawson, 18, tucked in the front waistband. A second loaded handgun was reportedly found partially tucked under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Lawson was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Under 21, No FOID for Possession of Ammo, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He is also wanted on a warrant out of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Tramerreon Blakes, 18, was arrested on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Under 21, and No FOID for Possession of Ammo.
Marcus King, 18, was arrested on Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Under 21, and No FOID for Possession of Ammo, Obstructing Identification, and Obstructing Justice. King allegedly refused to identify himself to police during the traffic stop.
Lawson, Blakes, and King were booked in the Peoria County Jail. Blakes and King were released Tuesday with notices to appear. The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to signal.
