PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria resident sought shelter with family after a fire in an apartment.
Firefighters responded to Lexington Hills apartments at 8:20 p.m. Saturday on a report of smoke in the building.
No obvious smoke or flames were seen as crews first arrived but after smelling smoke as they entered the building a fire in the kitchen area of one apartment was extinguished.
An investigator and arson dog were called to the scene, but the cause of the fire was determined to be non-intentional.
The apartment was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke damage.
There were no injuries.
