PEORIA, Ill. – The US Department of Justice has charged an El Paso man with allegedly making threats against President Trump.
27-year-old Derek Lopez was arrested on Tuesday night by El Paso Police and FBI officers near Main and Fayette during a traffic stop.
Lopez was questioned by FBI and Secret Service agents at the El Paso Police Department,then arrested and taken to the Woodford County Jail under federal detention.
A detention hearing for Lopez is scheduled for Monday, and is facing up to five years in prison.

EL PASO, Ill. – An El Paso man has been arrested on a federal warrant for allegedly making threats against the President.
Officers with El Paso Police and the FBI made a traffic stop Tuesday night just after 7:30 P.M. near Main and Fayette. Police say the driver of the vehicle was Derek Lopez, and was taken into custody without incident.
Lopez was questioned by FBI and Secret Service agents at the El Paso Police Department, then arrested and taken to the Woodford County Jail under federal detention.
25 News reports Lopez is a former Illinois State University teaching assistant, and was arrested earlier this month for allegedly overturning a table display of Turning Point USA materials on ISU’s campus.
