SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State Senator Chuck Weaver, of Peoria, has announced his resignation, which took effect on Sunday, January 3.
A year ago, Weaver announced he would not seek re-election. He’s served Illinois’ 37th District, which includes ten Central Illinois counties, since 2015.
“When serving, we must think about how our unique resources and skills can be used to impact the greatest need of the community,” Weaver said. “With Central Illinois at a turning point, everyone must serve where they can cause positive change. I believe I can now make the most positive impact closer to home by serving my community in a different position of service.”
Weaver will be succeeded by Senator-elect Win Stoller, who he supported after announcing his intention to retire from the Illinois State Senate.
“I would not have made my decision if I was not assured there was a high-quality candidate to replace me and the people of this district will be well served by his representation,” Weaver said.
