CHICAGO, Ill. — At least three people are dead, including the gunman, and at least four others were injured following multiple shootings Saturday afternoon across Chicago and Evanston, according to police.
The gunman, 32-year-old Jason Nightengale, was shot and killed by police outside of an Evanston IHOP, shortly after Nightengale shot a woman inside of the same restaurant. This woman was in critical condition.
Nightengale first killed a 30-year-old University of Chicago student inside of a parking garage just before 2 p.m.
Shortly after, Nightengale killed a female who was the security guard at an apartment building. A 77-year-old woman was struck by this fire and was in critical condition.
Before 4 p.m., Nightengale entered a convenience store with the intention of robbing it and shot a 20-year-old male in the head. The man later died at a hospital.
An elderly woman inside of the store was struck in the back of the head and neck from the gunfire and was in critical condition.
Around 5 p.m., the gunman then shot a 15-year-old girl in the head. The girl was hospitalized and was in critical condition.
Nightengale then fled to a CVS and fired one shot in the store that did not hit anyone. Shortly after, he moved to the IHOP where he was eventually killed by police in a shootout.
