Peoria, Ill — An era in print comes to an end with the announced retirement of Jan Wright, President and co-founder of “Peoria Magazine”.
According to a news release issued by WTVP-TV, Wright’s retirement will be effective December 31st.
The December 2021 issue of “Peoria Magazine” will be the last.
Wright and her late husband, David, co-founded the magazine 32 years ago, “to meet the ever-changing economic and cultural environment in the region.”
The original eight-page newsletter (InterBusiness Issues) evolved into numerous other titles serving the business, arts and social communities, while collaborating with government, arts and
nonprofit organizations.
The magazine title and signature events will be acquired by WTVP, the local public television affiliate.
In a joint statement with WTVP President and CEO Lesley Matuszak, Wright said, “Today’s media landscape continues to change, and the needs of consumers and advertisers are evolving with it.”
Wright continued, “I believe the time is right for the magazine’s legacy of service to migrate to new platforms, like WTVP’s digital resources, using fresh approaches to audience engagement.”
Four of Peoria Magazine’s signature events and community outreach programs will continue to serve the business community and residents of Central Illinois under the stewardship of WTVP and its governing board
of directors.
WTVP will continue to organize and promote these respected annual traditions:
40 Leaders Under Forty – An annual celebration of emerging leadership honoring the region’s rising young stars at a prestigious community reception.
Local Legends – The recognition reception inspires others to live out their legacies every day by telling the stories of legendary leaders in the region.
Women of Influence – Each year, the Women of Influence forum and recognition program highlights area women who are making a difference in Central Illinois. The half-day forum features speakers, breakout sessions and panel discussions.
Community Impact Guide – A highly anticipated annual publication highlighting the extraordinary work of Central Illinois’ nonprofit community, from health and human services to the arts, environment, and education.
Andrew Rand, chairman of the Illinois Valley Public Telecommunications Corporation board of directors, says the acquisition is an excellent fit with WTVP’s community-focused mission.
Wright said the two organizations will begin the transition immediately. She urged community leaders to support WTVP and move the region forward together.
