SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – You probably didn’t hear it in the Peoria area, but if you were in the Springfield or Decatur areas late Tuesday morning, you definitely did.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency says what turns out to be a sonic boom rattled windows, caused some shaking, and startled residents in parts of Central Illinois, around 11:20 A.M.
It was determined, through what was described as an immediate federal, state and local collaboration, that an F-15 fighter jet in the area course-corrected, causing the sonic boom.
The sonic boom comes when the sound barrier is broken.
There are no reports of damage.
