PEKIN, Ill. — After 30 years, the dragon has been retired at a Pekin water park.
The popular slide at DragonLand started cracking, along with other problems to the point it could not be repaired.
Pekin Park District’s Recreation Director Shawn Powers told 25 News that it was a matter of safety, as the pool is also being repaired and painted.
“It is bittersweet,” Powers added.
“I know the dragon slide is a very iconic facility. We are called DragonLand. The dragon will definitely be missed this season,” Powers said.
“Hopefully, we can get a new dragon next season and solve that problem,” Powers also said.
The park reopens May 28 with other renovations.
A new dragon is expected to arrive next year.
More information about DragonLand can be found on the park district’s website.
