SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Time is running out — for real, this time — if you need to get your drivers license or state I.D. card in Illinois.
Expiration dates had been extended to the end of July. But, Secretary of State Jesse White has moved the date again, to December first.
But, spokesman Henry Haupt urges you to not use that as an excuse.
“We do want the public to be aware that we expanded online renewals for expired drivers licenses and I.D. cards. We continue to mail letters to eligible customers that contain unique pin numbers to renew online,” said Henry Haupt, spokesperson.
But, not everyone can renew online.
“The only people who would not qualify for online renewal would be very first time drivers license or I.D. card applicants, because they have nothing to renew, first time RealID applicants, and drivers ages 75 and older who are required by state law to visit a facility when renewing their license,” said Haupt.
You can also renew in person at drivers license facilities, but a number of them still require appointments, like the one in Peoria’s Sterling Bazaar.
