PEORIA, Ill. – A big year for some big milestones involving St. Jude.
Peoria is the only city in the nation to host a telethon for the Memphis-based children’s research hospital, and on the 45th anniversary of the telethon on 25 News, $10.4 million was raised Saturday — $1 million more than the year before.
In addition to the telethon, what’s called an “immersive exhibit” that brought Saint Jude in Memphis, to Peoria.
“Peoria is just part of the fabric of the history of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said Julie Witte, area executive director, to 25 News. “It was so important for this community to see their impact through this exhibit.”
Witte says the exhibit will also travel to other U.S. cities.
Roughly half of the money raised for the telethon came from the Memphis to Peoria run and other local satellite runs.
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Saint Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria.
