DUNLAP, Ill. – The family of Tessa Sutton is giving back in her name to other families battling cancer or other catastrophic illnesses.
Sutton was a soccer player at Dunlap High School and endured 22 months of sarcoma cancer treatment before she died in March at 17-years-old.
The Tessa Sutton Foundation was created in honor of Tessa’s giving spirit – but nominations are needed to distribute the funding.
Tessa’s brother, Caleb Aeschliman, president of the foundation, tells 25 News that nearly $10,000 in support has been provided to families so far.
“It means the world to us to be bringing Tessa’s ideas for the foundation to reality. Throughout her battle, when she had every right to be mad at the world, and with concerns that should’ve weighed as a boulder upon a teenager, Tessa’s focus was always on making sure those around her were first ok. Her empathy and care for others are the guiding light for our foundation and our only hope is that we are making her proud,” Aeschliman said in a release.
The foundation also supports the Sunshine Cart at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois by providing snacks, toys, games and activities.
