EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria residents looking to get rid of downed tree branches from last week’s derecho can burn them for a limited time only.
The City of East Peoria says there will be a special open burning week starting Monday and running through Sunday, July 9, for burning storm-damaged tree limbs.
The work must be done in small piles, only during daylight hours, and only on non windy days.
The city also says the burning must be constantly supervised by a responsible adult, a water source must be nearby, and must be completely put out when finished.
The city also asks that residents check with neighbors prior to burning, in case they may have health problems that can be harmed by smoke.
