PEORIA, Ill. – Police have arrested two more teenagers, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, for a shooting Sunday that left a 9-year-old boy injured at a South Peoria apartment complex.
Peoria Police arrested the teens on Thursday around 2 p.m. near S. Griswold. They were both taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
PPD Spokesperson Semone Roth says the 14-year-old faces charges of attempted vehicle burglary related to the shooting. The 15-year-old is facing two counts of motor vehicle theft from two separate cases.
Police initially arrested another 15-year-old boy in connection with the shooting. He has an arrest record going back to age 10.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said the PPD arrested the teen, who is suspected of trying to break into a vehicle at River West Apartments on SW Phoenix Drive.
The teen reportedly fired a gun while running from the scene, wounding the nine-year-old boy who was inside a nearby apartment eating dinner, according to Echevarria.
The nine-year-old is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
