PEORIA, Ill. – The man who died after reportedly being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Peoria has been identified.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 66-year-old David Johnson of Peoria was pronounced dead in his hospital bed just after 9:45 P.M. Thursday.
Harwood says he suffered multiple blunt-force trauma injuries as a result of being hit by a vehicle.
Johnson was taken to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis in critical condition after the crash in the area of University and Merle at around 5:45 P.M.
He was found down in the southbound lane of University, with his wheelchair nearby him.
The driver of the vehicle told police he did not see Johnson until it was too late and was unable to avoid hitting him.
