PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters battled multiple blazes within an hour of each other on Saturday afternoon.
The first was called in just after 1:00 P.M. on the West Bluff, in the area of Richmond and Linn, where heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from a 1.5-story home.
Crews entered through the front door and encountered intense fire with zero visibility, but got the fire under control in ten minutes.
All people in the home had safely evacuated. Two firefighters received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
An investigator determined the fire was caused by an electrical issue, with damage estimated at $75,000.
The second was called in on the South Side in the area of Latrobe and Folkers, just before 2:00 P.M. That’s where crews found a fire in the backyard that had spread to the house.
Smoke was visible from the roof of the home, with firefighters putting out the flames on the exterior of the house.
More crews entered inside and found the fire had spread to the attic and rear bedroom, and put it out within ten minutes.
Peoria Fire says the home was occupied at the time of the fire, but everyone escaped safely.
The fire was determined to be unintentional.
There were no injuries, with damage estimated at $40,000.
