PEORIA, Ill. – A man will remain in jail after he allegedly hijacked a vehicle during a test drive in Peoria this past weekend.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition to detain 24-year-old Tyshawn Britton was granted Tuesday, who is charged with Vehicular Hijacking.
Britton is accused of taking a test drive of a vehicle from Autohaus of Peoria Saturday afternoon.
Prosecutors say Britton was in the passenger seat when he allegedly punched the victim, who was driving, and indicated he had a gun.
The victim pulled out and got out, with Britton moving into the driver’s seat and taking off.
Police contacted OnStar to track the vehicle, with OnStar reporting the vehicle was traveling 122 MPH before they were able to stop it on Interstate 155 near San Jose.
Britton was taken into custody after.
