PEORIA/CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A schedule conflict is sending the high school baseball state finals away from Peoria.
The Illinois High School Association says the Class 1A and 2A finals are moving to Illinois Field on the campus of the University of Illinois.
It’s the first time the state baseball finals will be held in Champaign-Urbana, which also hosts the boys’ basketball and wrestling state finals.
The move is needed because the Peoria Chiefs are home the week of the finals, scheduled for June 6th and 7th, and efforts to remedy the situation were not successful.
“We are disappointed because Dozer Park is a wonderful facility, but feel fortunate to have another outstanding facility and host partner in the Fighting Illini athletic department and Experience Champaign-Urbana willing to pinch-hit as hosts,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson, in a statement.
The Class 1A and 2A state finals have been hosted at Dozer Park in Peoria since 2011.
