PEORIA, Ill. – An Edgar County teenager has died in a Peoria hospital after reportedly being injured during baseball practice.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 15-year-old Bentley Wolfe of Chrisman was transported on March 3rd to OSF Saint Francis in critical condition. Chrisman sits about seven miles west of the Indiana border.
Harwood says Wolfe was hit in the head by a line drive baseball during practice the day prior.
He says Wolfe was declared brain dead on March 6th, despite aggressive care and treatment.
Harwood says an autopsy reveals Wolfe suffered detrimental head trauma due to blunt force trauma. He says Wolfe was an organ donor, calling him “very heroic.”
In a social media post on Sunday, Chrisman High School and Junior High stated that the “outpouring” of support for Wolfe has been “overwhelming.” Vermillion Valley Conference member schools, as well as other surrounding schools, showed their support on Monday by wearing red or green as a tribute.
The Chrisman Future Business Leaders of America Chapter has been organizing a fundraiser to support Wolfe’s family.
