PEORIA, Ill. – The American Theatre Guild is announcing that Disney’s The Lion King is making its long-anticipated return to Peoria at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater at Peoria Civic Center during the 2027-28 season.
The American Theatre Guild’s Scott McGorty tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” it’s a massive production.
“There’s 200 puppets in the show, and it takes 17 semi trucks to bring that show from city to city. And, on top of that, it takes an additional four days to set up the show,” McGorty says.
The Lion King last played at the Peoria Civic Center in 2018. It’s been touring North America for more than 24 years, and during that time has welcomed over 28 million theatergoers, making it North America’s longest-running and most-attended Broadway tour.
