PEORIA, Ill. – If you’re driving near the McClugage Bridge on Wednesday, don’t be alarmed if you see firefighters dangling over the water.
The Peoria Technical Rescue Team is holding a rope rescue training exercise on the old North Bridge all day Wednesday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You’ll likely see crews suspended beneath the bridge, mannequins being “rescued,” and fire boats out on the Illinois River.
Peoria Fire says it’s just practice, not an emergency.
While you might be tempted to slow down to see what’s happening, keep your eyes on the road.
The state will have signs up to warn you, but the best thing to do is to stay focused on driving and keep moving.
This rescue training is critical for keeping Peoria’s crews ready for real-life emergencies.
