BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (25 News) – A jury viewed surveillance camera footage and heard testimony Tuesday from witnesses claiming the accused killer was at a Bloomington house party where a Peoria teenager was shot and killed four years ago.
Tomiyale Anderson, 22, is on trial this week for the death of 17-year-old Kany’e Stowers. He was about to graduate from Richwoods High School. Police said he was shot and killed at that party on April 8, 2022, in the 400 block of East Mill Street in Bloomington.
During the trial’s second day, retired Bloomington Police Det. Brad Melton said several cameras tracked a silver SUV traveling to the home where the party was, and away from the house after shots were fired.
There is also footage of a person getting out of the car before the shooting.
The driver of the vehicle and his brother said Anderson was at the party that night.
The brother, Devon Hansborough, said he heard shots, but did not see Anderson with a gun, nor does he remember seeing any altercations between Anderson and Stowers.
Hansborough also said he could not remember several statements he made to police right after the shooting.
Anderson is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The trial at the McLean County Law and Justice Center is expected to last the rest of this week.
