CREVE COEUR, Ill. (25 News) – Illinois State Police have confirmed an ongoing investigation into the former chief and assistant of the Creve Coeur Police Department.
“The Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 4 can confirm that they do have an active investigation into this matter. No further information will be released at this time as this is active and ongoing investigation,” said ISP in their response.
Both men had resigned from their positions in Creve Coeur on Aug. 21 with no public explanation.
Those resignations came just over a month after Caitlynn Girkin, a former police officer in Creve Coeur, was arrested for an investigation of a first-degree murder charge of her roommate.
According to court records from the Peoria County Circuit Court, an order of protection was filed against former Village of Creve Coeur Police Chief Justin Egan and a stalking/no contact order was filed against former Creve Coeur Deputy Police Chief Dan Nelson by the same person.
Egan and Nelson’s resignations came as part of a trio, with Creve Coeur officer Dustin Ward also submitting his resignation simultaneously.
No reason was given for the resignations.
Egan’s hearing is set for Sept. 15 while Nelson’s hearing is set for Sept. 16 at the Peoria County Courthouse.
