PEORIA, Ill. – Severe weather could cover central Illinois in the evening hours on Tuesday.
25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins says severe thunderstorms are expected in a couple different waves between 5:00-9:00 P.M.
Collins says all weather hazards are possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes.
The National Weather Service on Monday placed Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties into a level 2 “slight” risk for severe weather on Tuesday. Portions of west-central Illinois, including Fulton County, are in a level 3 “enhanced” risk.
The NWS places the Peoria-area at a 5% chance for a tornado, with a 10% chance west of the Illinois River. It also says there’s a 10% chance for a tornado rated EF2 or higher.
All of central Illinois is at a 15% risk of severe wind, and a 15% chance of large hail, with some areas potentially seeing hail larger than 2”.
