EAST PEORIA Ill. – Employees at the Holiday Inn & Suites in the East Peoria Levee District are mourning those killed by Wednesday’s American Eagle crash, as some of those who died were frequent guests.
According to the hotel’s manager, Nick Norvell, the crew members who died in the collision with a military helicopter stayed at the Holiday Inn about once a month, with their most recent visit being just last week.
Norvell joined WMBD’s The Phil Luciano show this week, to discuss the loss.
“Those were our people, those were our people — I was like you’ve got to be kidding me. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it, it was like a gut-punch. They were our people,” Norvell said.
To honor the fallen crew, the hotel has put a tribute at the front desk.
