PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters and Paramedics responded to reports of a structure fire early Monday morning in the 2000 block of S. Stanley Street.
Crews arrived just after 2 a.m., finding fire coming from a basement window and spreading up the side and into the attic of a home next door.
Firefighters confirmed the fire started in a vacant home. Three people next door evacuated their home and were outside when crews arrived.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, however both homes sustained heavy damage, and crews remained on the scene for several hours putting out hot spots.
Firefighting operations were complicated by a compromised gas line found in the vacant home that had to be shut down.
Total property loss is estimated at $200,000. Three people were displaced as a result of the fire and are receiving aid from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
