PEORIA, Ill. – A fire in Peoria Friday evening caused $50,000.00 damage and displaced one resident.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney says crews were called around 5:30 p.m. to a home in the 1200 block of W. Lincoln Avenue, finding fire showing from the roof.
Firefighters used multiple hose lines to put the fire out on the first floor and in the attic. They also cut a hole in the roof to release heat and smoke. Maroney says the crew’s quick action prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.
The man who was displaced by the fire had already evacuated before the fire department arrived. A search of the home confirmed that no one else was inside, and no injuries were reported at the scene.
The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, with crews remaining on the scene for about two hours to check for hidden fire and hotspots.
Following an investigation, it was determined that the cause of the fire was overloaded electrical circuits.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident with temporary housing.
