PEORIA, Ill. – Last month it was Adams Street. Next week, it’s Jefferson Avenue’s turn.
Peoria Public Works announced on Wednesday that Jefferson Ave. between Fayette and Walnut will be converted into two-way traffic on May 12th, weather permitting. The rain date for the conversion would be the following day.
The milestone marks the end of the two-year project to convert Adams and Jefferson into two-way streets. It’s something that Public Works’ Nick McMillion says has been decades in the making.
“This conversation and this project has been just a dream of some many Peorians and city councils before,” McMillion said. “To see it really come to fruition and the construction to finally be at this point is just incredible.”
Adams St. was converted to two-way traffic up to Hamilton in late-April.
McMillion is urging motorists after Jefferson is converted to pay attention to new pavement markings, traffic signals, and signage, while pedestrians should be mindful to look both ways.
