PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say a man attempting to flee from a traffic stop ended up crashing his vehicle instead.
36-year-old Lamar Nixon sped away from officers who were conducting a traffic stop in the 900 block of NE Perry Avenue on Tuesday.
In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the suspect, as he fled at a high rate of speed.
A short time later, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a utility pole in the 700 block of Morgan Street.
Police say Nixon attempted to flee on foot but was captured and taken into custody. He was arrested for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting/Obstructing Police, and multiple traffic violations.
Nixon was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
