PEORIA, Ill. – One month into leading the Peoria Police Department, Chief Brad Dixon says the number one complaint he’s hearing about is traffic-related.
“We’ve got data that shows us what the most dangerous intersections are…and I’m like this is fixable,” Dixon says.
The chief tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” that PPD is being very strategic about what intersections they’re focusing on. One of them is War Memorial Drive, where he recently witnessed a crash.
“I’m at the intersection of a five-car accident, I’m trying to help get traffic through, and I’m watching these cars blow these red arrows…right in front of me,” Dixon says.
If you are speeding, roll through a red light, are distracted or not wearing a seat belt, Peoria Police will stop you…and give you a citation.
Dixon says the traffic detail is not about writing tickets, but keeping everyone safe.
