PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley University is moving forward with its women’s Premier Club Sports programs, and they’ve picked a familiar face to lead the way.
Longtime Peoria educator and coach Rob Penney is the new head coach for Bradley’s first-ever women’s flag football program.
If you’ve followed high school sports around here, you likely know Penney—he’s been a staple in Peoria Public Schools for over thirty years and is a regular on the sidelines at Richwoods High School.
Flag football is exploding right now. It’s growing fast at the youth and high school levels, and it’s even headed to the Olympics in 2028. By bringing a veteran coach like Penney on board to build this from the ground up, Bradley is signaling they’re serious about being a part of that wave.
It’s part of a wider effort at the university to add five new women’s club programs, including ice hockey, soccer, wrestling, and STUNT.
For local families and athletes, it means more options to play at a high level right here in Central Illinois.
