Each week (hopefully), I’m going to post 5 Things Making Me Happy for a couple of reasons. (1.) It helps me appreciate being…being present, being attentive, and being alive…because we don’t take enough time to appreciate the joys in our lives (2.) In hopes that it spurs the same type of thoughts for you, and that will make more of us “happy”. I want to make sure I give complete credit to Gretchen Rubin and her Happiness Project…her idea, I’m just using it.
Here is this week’s list:
- Vacation. I don’t take much time off because I think I’m too important and am needed at all times…this isn’t true of course, but I think it. I spent some time in the mountains taking in the fresh air, taking pictures, hiking, and looking at the wonders of nature while clearing my head of busy thoughts.
- The sound of a rushing stream. I can’t tell you how many audio files I have on my phone that I recorded while standing near a fast-moving stream. Listening to the sound of water moving quickly and forcefully over the rocks in the way as it moves downstream. I’ve even used some of these sounds as my ringtone on my phone because of the peace it gives me when answering the phone.
- Learning something new while on a hike. Walking up the mountain trail alongside a stream, there were ruins of early settlements that were built in the early 1800’s. Here’s what I learned…those people knew how to build a fireplace and chimney! Look around all you want, but the only thing that was still standing after 200 years was the chimney.
- I love driving, and going for a really long drive does me good. The sound of the road, the music on the radio that is now paired with the drive…and let’s not forget the snack box! Putting nearly 2,000 miles on the car, you have some time to snack…and those snacks need to be good! I’d show you the picture of my snack box, but the amount of snacks included is seriously embarrassing. Oh what the heck….here!
- The rooster that enjoyed sleeping in. This isn’t a joke…the sign at the restaurant that was famous for its breakfast said “Early Risers Welcome”, but it didn’t open its doors until 8:00 am! The rooster didn’t start cock-a-doodle-doing until 8:30 am at the earliest…a couple of mornings it was well after 9:00!
What is making you happy this week? I’d love to hear what is making you happy, and the possible story behind it.
