You know the drill, each week I post 5 Things Making Me Happy and hope they make you think a little bit about things that make you happy and spend some time with gratitude.
Here is this week’s list:
- A gift of chocolate! I mean c’mon, who doesn’t get happy when a friend sends you something in the mail and it turns out to be chocolate!?! It was a continuation of my birthday that got delivered a little late…did I mind? Nope, more like overjoyed that it came! Have you ever had a Bourbon Ball before? That’s basically what these are, chocolate candy that has a hint of bourbon in them using different bourbons and flavors in each. Happy, happy, happy.
- I have this thing about my yard, I like to keep it nice and looking tight. Before I moved into this house a year ago, I had purged a LOT of stuff and basically started from scratch. I picked up a new lawnmower, rakes, shovels, tools, hose…blah, blah, blah. One thing I didn’t get was a week wacker, so that meant I was down on my hands and knees with clippers doing the trim work, grumbling the entire time. I love a good hard straight edge from the grass to the sidewalk, and I could go into detail about how I did that (again on my hands and knees), but my son laughs at me whenever we talk about it. Another gift that came my way was an edger, you know…that ones that you stick between the yard and the sidewalk, step on, and BOOM instant edge. The front yard looks good, but the huge honkin’ sidewalk along the side of the house I didn’t worry about because it was just too long for me to do what I did in the front. But not anymore!
- The way my basil plant has totally rebounded after being at death’s door. Weird, I’m aware of that, but you should have seen it…most people would have just thrown it away. This little plant and I have been through a few things together, I bought it and wasn’t sure it was going to make it, then bugs tried to take it down, then I went on vacation and it didn’t get any water and was gasping for air when I got back (that might all be a little dramatic). Finally, after years of trying to grow basil only to have it start to flower and the taste get not so basil-ly, this sucker is still blooming and ready to use on a Margarita pizza, or some killer pesto!
- Dinner with the kids and the ones I love. Not much gets better than this in my opinion, being able to sit and talk about things going on in their world as we munch on tacos. Heaven.
- Going for a visit to see my mom. Look, I’m her favorite out of 7 kids (the others will say they are) and when I get a chance to drive up to the Quad Cities to see her that’s just the best. This time not only will it be my 94-year-old mother, but a couple of my brothers and their families will be there too. Oh, and there will be Red Velvet Cake, so I have that going for me as a bonus!
